The UP Diliman Gender Office launched new publications this year namely: Protocol for Gender-Based Violence Prevention and Response (GBV Protocol), Usapang Lalaki: Masculinities Study Training Module, Mulat: Book of Gender Abstracts, 6 Year UP Diliman GAD Agenda, and the FILIPIN/AS: Women in Philippine Society Module. Aside from these publications, the UPDGO also launched pamphlets about gender topics and issues: HIV-AIDS brochure, SOGIESC brochure, Safe Spaces Act: Isang Praymer, and the SOGIESC Situation in UP Diliman. The “Protocol for Gender-Based Violence Prevention and Response (GBV Protocol)” is intended to be a resource for faculty, staff, and employees who are first responders to different gender-based violence cases in the university. This is written by our Guidance Service Specialist, Anna Myrishia Villanueva. Meanwhile, the “Usapang Lalaki: Masculinity Studies Training Module” written by Eric Cabrera, is for trainers who want to shed light on the topic masculinity studies in the Philippines as a patriarchal society and how it is connected to different issues like VAWC, sexual harassment, bullying, and all forms of discrimination. The “Mulat: Book of Gender Abstracts” is a collection of abstracts about gender-related studies and topics. This project is headed by Kristel May Gomez-Magdaraog. The “6 Year UP Diliman GAD Agenda” is written also by Kristel May Gomez-Magdaraog, Cindy Cruz-Cabrera, Gwyneth Meneses and members of the UP Diliman Committee: Joseph Liao, Aiza Palaya, Gian Louisse Roy, AC Nadora, Eric Lloyd Hilario, and Kathleen Estrella. The agenda was a result of a 2-year intensive research and collaboration of the office and the GAD Committees of the university. The “Filipin/as: Women in Philippine Society” module is also a collaboration between the UPDGO and faculty of the Department of Speech Communication and Theatre Arts which aims to help Senior High school teachers and educators in teaching about gender-issues and topics. Finally, the “SOGIESC Situation in UP Diliman” is a study on the current SOGIESC situation which was a result of a series of interviews with faculty, staff, and students within the university. By launching these publications and other reading materials, the UP Diliman Gender Office hopes to raise awareness about gender issues and promote a more equitable and inclusive community. These publications are part of the office’s larger goal to create a more equal and gender-sensitive world. Message us for copies!
The UP Diliman Gender Office would like to invite all GAD COMMITTEE MEMBERS to participate in the 13th UP Diliman Gender and Development (GAD) Summit 2022 and the 3rd UP Diliman Professional Development Training Series 2022: Gender-Based Violence First Responder Training this November 23-25, 2022 as part of UPDGO’s opening activities for the 18-Day Campaign to End Violence Against Women, which begins on November 25 – the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women (IDEVAW). These are both in-person activities to be held at Alcantara Hall (third floor), UP Student Union Building, University of the Philippines Diliman. The 3rd UP Diliman Professional Development Training Series 2022: Gender-Based Violence First Responder Training is a three-day training seminar to be held on November 23-24, 2022 from 8:00AM to 5:00PM and on November 25, 2022 from 8:00AM to 12:00NN. The PDTS will be focused on Training for UP Diliman GAD Committee members as Counseling First Responders for Gender-Based Violence. This training is the direct result of previous GAD Agenda and GAD Summit roundtable discussions on the need for Training as Counseling First Responders for Gender-Based Violence following concerns regarding several incidences of requests and situations where GAD Committee members have had to respond and assist in this capacity. The PDTS shall be followed by the 13th UP Diliman Gender and Development Summit 2022 to be held on November 25, 2022 from 1:00PM to 5:00PM. This will be the first in-person GAD Summit to be held since 2019, and will include GAD Committee fellowship, presentation of GAD accomplishments, and sharing of best practices in GAD of all units and colleges across UP Diliman. We shall be celebrating IDEVAW – the International Day for the Elimination and Violence Against Women through GAD education and awareness-raising briefings and two musical performances.
